Your Dream Job

by Caroline on February 13, 2017

In my chapter from WHAT’S YOUR POTION? I include a smoothie recipe to help you find and obtain your dream job. The quote is missing from the recipe and this recipe should appear on page 95, not on page 96. Anyway, I think the words make a great way to start off the work week. I don’t have a photo of this potion, but I’ve included one of one of my cats when she was a kitten. Why a picture of a cat? Because they seem to know exactly what they want and how to get it! Here’s the quote:

“Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it.”

-Katharine Whitehorn (b. 1928), British journalist and columnist.

White Grape Determination Potion

by Caroline on February 3, 2017

In my chapter on Potions for Career and Goals, I give the recipe for a White Grape Juice to bolster your determination to achieve your goal. Unfortunately, the accompanying quotation was left out of the final text. Whether you are searching for the right employment, wanting to finish writing that memoir, or anxious to do something in the socio-political arena, this potion, along with the quotation, may be of some assistance. It is by Tommy Lasorda, major league baseball player and manager. He says, “The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” The accompanying photo is of “my nun,” Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. I have been trying to get my mystery novel where she is the sleuth who solves crimes from the cloister published for 3 years. I am determined to make this happen this year.

Juice for Opening One’s Path

by Caroline on January 31, 2017

I end my chapter on achieving prosperity in my book WHAT’S YOUR POTION? with a recipe for “Open My Paths” juice. However, the accompanying quote was left out during layout. In these challenging times, I thought you all might enjoy and benefit from it. The quote is from the second-century BCE conqueror Hannibal, and reads, “We will either find a way or make one.” Please contemplate the quote’s full meaning as you enjoy sipping the juice.

On Achieving Goals

by Caroline on January 24, 2017

Whether your goal is personal or has to do with national or world politics, I have found the following quotation inspiring. It’s in my WHAT’S YOUR POTION? book in the chapter on career and goals. Sorry, I’ve no photo to post with it. “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan (b. 1962), NBA star.

Luck o’ the Irish

by Caroline on January 19, 2017

05-01 AAA-1With the New Year come hopes and plans for renewed prosperity. As you sip my “Luck o’ the Irish Choco-Mint Smoothie (the recipe is in my book, WHAT’S YOUR POTION?) you might contemplate this quote from musician and songwriter, Booker T. Jones. He said, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have no luck at all.” Although the quote never made it into the book, the reference did when I talk about “Poor Mr. Jones.”

Reminder of interview and quote

by Caroline on January 7, 2017

So this isn’t a total “shameless hussy self- promotion post, here is another quote missing from the book for you to enjoy. The accompanying photo is of us at Penguin Random House Editorial in Mexico City taken in October. We went there to talk to the editor who is currently reading my mystery novel, AZTEC GOLD. Okay, here’s the quote:

There comes a time in many relationships when each person feels the need to move on. In my final recipe in the chapter on love and friendship, I provide an infusion (tea) that both can imbibe while talking over the good times and leaving each other without bitterness in the heart.

“To everything there is a season.” — The Bible.                                         carol-randomhouse

Potions Quote about Sweeteners and Tea

by Caroline on December 26, 2016

I realize I haven’t blogged for a while there is a lot happening these days. Anyway, I’m getting back to posting quotes from WHAT’S YOUR POTION?, my latest book that were not included in the text. In my opinion, they’re too good to let fall by the wayside. This one was meant to go into the section on sweeteners. It is by English novelist Henry Fielding, who in “Love in Several Masks” says “Love and scandal are the best sweeteners of tea.” The sugars are my own photographed in my Noritake Gold Queen sugar bowl, the pattern of which was lost during the WWII bombing.Sugar

Last Chocolate Quote from POTIONS book

by Caroline on June 27, 2016

Here’s the last quote that was left out of the chapter on chocolate from the POTIONS book. It goes with my “Banish Depression and Melancholy Hot Cocoa.” Also hope the photo relieves some of the heat you may be feeling this summer! hotchoco

“Love is like swallowing hot chocolate before it has cooled off. It takes you by surprise at first, but keeps you warm for a long time.” – Anonymous Hot Chocolate Fan.
